As part of her Summer Placement with us, Natalie took part in Training days with ScotGrad at Fairburn Activity Centre where she took part in a few outdoor activities and learned a few techniques with other students.
“I was a bit nervous arriving at Fairburn on Sunday night but after an hour or two everyone seemed to click and we were socialising like we’d been friends for ages. The first day we learned a few techniques on promoting ourselves and our skills and introduced each of our companies to the other students and took part in an outdoor treasure hunt where we had to find letters and numbers to unlock the padlock on a chest for our prize. On the second day we managed to blag our way into doing another activity in between our talks. This time it was Archery. My first shot was a bulls eye but I went downhill from there.”
This course is a great way to get students out of their shells and get talking about who they are, what they do and what skills they have.
“It was definitely worth it. I’m already good at talking and that’s just how I’ve always been but you could see other students becoming more confident in presenting themselves. We had to come up with new business ideas for a service or a product and propose them in front of Professor Heather Fulford of Robert Gordon University and a previous ScotGrad student and graduate which you would think was a bit daunting but actually quite fun.”
